Performance
At Roxbourne, performance is an important part of school life. We believe that performing builds confidence, communication skills and pride in achievement.
For this reason, performance opportunities are carefully planned throughout a child’s journey at the school. Every pupil takes part in both informal and formal performances, gradually developing their confidence and stage presence year by year.
Performance Opportunities by Year Group
Reception
Children perform in a traditional Nativity performance, giving them their first experience of performing on stage for an audience.
Year 1
Pupils lead a special class assembly, sharing their learning with parents and the school community. This assembly is usually linked to their learning in History and Geography about the United Kingdom.
Year 2
Pupils lead our annual Christmas Service at St Andrew’s Church, performing readings, songs and reflections in a special community setting.
Years 3 – 6
Pupils perform three times each year as a Year Group Orchestra as part of our groundbreaking violin programme. These concerts celebrate the musical progress of every pupil and include opportunities to:
-
Perform as a full orchestra
-
Narrate sections of the concert
-
Showcase pupils’ musical aptitude and solo performances
Year 6
In their final year, pupils take part in a full West End–style production, combining acting, singing and stage performance in a memorable culmination of their time at Roxbourne.
Through these experiences, every child leaves Roxbourne having performed many times in front of real audiences, developing confidence, creativity and a lifelong appreciation of the performing arts.
