We are delighted to share some exciting news with you. As you may already know, Roxbourne Primary School was successful in securing a £150,000 grant from the Department for Education (DfE) to open a School-Based Nursery, serving children from 9 months - 3 years old. We are proud to say that Roxbourne was the only school in the London Borough of Harrow to submit a successful application – a significant milestone for our school and community. We have formally accepted the grant, and we are now proceeding with the plans we submitted to the Department for Education. This marks the next phase in our journey to support children from the very start of their educational lives through to the end of primary school.

The Space

To make this possible, the school will be investing approximately £220,000 to remodel a dedicated area of our school building. The new nursery will transform the current Premises Cupboard, Premises Office, Small Group Room, Meeting Room, Resources Cupboard, Adult Toilets, and Medical Room into a fresh, open-plan space of around 155 square meters. The setting will benefit from its own entrance at the front of the school and a dedicated outdoor learning area, designed with our youngest children in mind.

Planned Opening

We are currently working towards an official opening date of Monday 29th September 2025. At launch, we intend to start small, and term-time only, ensuring the highest standards of care and provision. We will begin by offering places for:

• 6 children aged 9 months – 2 years, and

• 10 children aged 2 – 3 years.

In time, we plan to expand our offer to:

• 12 places for children aged 9 months – 2 years, and

• 20 places for children aged 2 – 3 years.

Planned Core Day and Extended Day

We intend for the nursery to operate a core day from 9:00am – 3:00pm, with the possibility of extended hours from 8:00am – 4:30pm, subject to demand. Please see the table below for further details.

Consultation

We are working closely with the London Borough of Harrow to ensure we meet all necessary requirements - tomorrow, we will enter a two week consultation with the wider community, you too are invited to share your feedback by completing The Consultation Form.
