Thurs 14TH Feb – Y5 & Y6 Boys Football League - Roxbourne Vs Vaughan

On Thursday 14th February Roxbourne hosted Vaughan Primary for our second game of the season. Following our impressive first game which was a 4 0 victory over Avanti house, we were very excited for this game. It was a tough start against a team who were very physical and we started very slowly. After 10 minutes we went 1 0 down due to a header from their centre forward. However as the half went on, we grew into the game and managed to equalise and even take a 2 1 lead thanks to goals from Hussain and Akshan. Unfortunately, in the last minute of the half, they caught us off-guard and equalised. “At half time we were quite nervous as they were clearly a strong team. We still felt like we were in the game and had a chance of winning.” Iliyaan (6 Edinburgh).

“During the second half we felt the tension building up inside us because we knew this wasn’t going to be easy.” Soban (6 Cardiff). After a very competitive and cagey second half where chances were missed on both sides, the opposing team scored a scruffy goal which gave them a 3 - 2 lead.

“I felt that our heads dropped and we never fully recovered from that. Unfortunately it was very late in the game and we didn’t have time to recover.” Michael (6 Cardiff).

Tues 12TH Feb 2019 - Year 6 Perform Workshop

Y6 explored their history topic through the medium of drama in a workshop. The students used their vast knowledge of the subject to create freeze frames, impromptu mini-scenes and even a game. It was a perfect end to a topic they all felt very passionate about. They were engaged throughout the workshop and responded with enthusiasm and sensitivity to the subject. They were commended for their excellent behaviour and listening skills.

Tues 12TH Feb 2019 - Rec Oxford Visit Pinner Library

Reception Oxford had a superb time at Pinner Library. We had the opportunity to travel by the H12 bus and we thoroughly enjoyed sitting at the top and looking at the view. We learnt which machine to use when we want to loan or return a book and all received a receipt. The librarian explained how important it is to read books and told us about all the things we can do at a library including reading newspapers from other countries. It was fantastic trip.

Tues 5TH Feb 2019 - Reception Brighton Visit Pinner Library

Reception Brighton had an amazing time at Pinner Library. We travelled by H12 and children had an opportunity to sit on the top deck which was exciting! The ride was adventurous and educational as we talked about various things we saw on our way. The librarian read us a story which linked to our Traditional Tales unit and she was fascinated to hear the children's responses. We now look forward to travelling on the train in the Summer Term.

Thurs 31ST Jan 2019 - Y4 Author Visit

On Thursday 31st January, Year 4 pupils were visited by the author, David P. Perlmutter. Children were very excited to meet a real life author who delivered a talk on his life as an author. The author is working with children across Harrow to write a book about their memories in Harrow. This is part of a community project set up by St George’s Shopping Centre, Harrow

Tues 29TH Jan – Hockey Tournament

On Tuesday 29th January 2019, eight pupils from year 6 competed in a ‘Quicksticks’ 4 a side hockey tournament at John Lyon School Campus in Sudbury Hill, Harrow. Roxbourne played three games against other schools, winning two (4-0 and 2-1) and losing one game (3-2). It was an excellent effort from Roxbourne and we were very unfortunate not to reach the quarter finals missing out by just one point. Massive congratulations to those pupils who competed; Husain, Kai, lliyaan, Michael, Jannah, Lily-Ann, Ashwina and Swara.

Thurs 17TH Jan – Y5 & Y6 Boys Football League - Roxbourne Vs Avanti House

On Thursday 17th, Roxbourne boys hosted our first game of the season against Avanti House Primary. It was a long time waiting as it has proven difficult for other schools to be available for us. However it was worth the wait as our boys won 4-0 in a fantastic performance. In the first half we dominated and kept them pinned in their own half thanks to a high line from defenders Kofi (6 Belfast) and Soban (6 Cardiff). We went into half-time 2-0 up thanks to a goal from our striker Hussain (6 Edinburgh) and an own goal which was forced through great pressure. In the second half we won but missed a penalty, however we persevered and scored a further two goals including a great long range strike from Iliyaan (6 Edinburgh). “Overall it was a terrific performance in front of a supportive crowd and a great show of sportsmanship from the boys.”

“We are really proud of our hard work. We will work hard to improve for our next game.” Soban DF (6 Cardiff)

Wed 16TH January 2019 – Y5 Trip to Hampton Court Palace

On Wednesday 16th January 2019, Y5 had an incredible time at Hampton Court Palace. Children had the opportunity to visit King Henry VIII’s home and see how he and monarchs after him lived at the palace. Children toured the palace grounds guided by an actress in role of a noble woman. Y5 definitely deepened their knowledge and understanding of how King Henry VIII lived and spent his free time.
