Music at Roxbourne
We are very proud of our music programme at Roxbourne. All children in key stage 2 receive a weekly music lesson led by Mrs McWilliam, our specialist music teacher and lots of our KS2 parents opt in to the Harrow Music Programme where children receive small group weekly instrumental tuition in a range of instruments, including violins, cellos and guitars. If you are interested in registering your child for music tuition lessons next year (2017/18), please watch this space, as we will be sending out more information over the coming weeks.
Our Y3 and Y4 pupils are super excited to be learning how to play an instrument. Over the past two weeks, they have met their new music teachers, they have chosen which instrument they would like to learn and they have started to make their first sounds! We look forward to sharing more information on their progress, and we can’t wait to see them perform in the future!
On Friday 28TH April, 17 children from Roxbourne joined children from all over the Borough at The John Lyon School for a music making day. There were over 200 children in all; the children, depending on their instrumental skills, played in either an orchestra, choir or percussion ensemble.
Zahraa 6H joined the percussion ensemble and spent the day playing a range of instruments from the drum kit to boomwhackers. The other children joined the orchestra, which was 120 strong – the same size as any professional orchestra such as the London Symphony Orchestra. During the day the children rehearsed for a concert which they performed to headteachers, parents and other visitors. The concert, where all three ensembles performed, was super. The standard of the playing was very high and the children got a lot out of the day. Well done to the following children for representing Roxbourne—you were all great ambassadors. These children were an absolute pleasure to be with, we had compliments about their exemplary behaviour and I felt very proud to be there with these musicians. These children are a credit to the School and to you, their parents.
CONGRATULATIONS to the following children for passing their Trinity College Music Exams. A lot of hard work and practice goes into preparing for these music exams and these children have done very well indeed.
