Music In May 2017

Wednesday 24TH May 2017

@ 19:00 at St Andrew's Church, Malvern Avenue

On what was the hottest day of the year, over 100 children from School registered at St. Andrew's Church on Wednesday morning instead of their usual classrooms. They sat in the church pews and waited until it was their turn to rehearse their items for the evening's concert.

By 7pm the Church was a hive of activity, filled with parents, grandparents, siblings and friends it was time for the children to perform to an audience.

The evening started with the choir singing 'My Dog is a Good Dog' - the lovely sound filled the room, the acoustics were perfect and so was the singing. We were then entertained by all the children who have instrumental lessons in School playing a variety of pieces, on a variety of instruments. The concert was a great success, all who performed did so extremely well. The concert was compared by the School Councillors, who were articulate and very professional in their deliveries; it was very much a children's concert even though the standard would make you question this fact.

The concert finished with a massed item, children playing, singing and audience participation with 'Yellow Submarine'. The Church was full of proud parents, happy children and a lovely sense of 'Community' atmosphere.

It was a pleasure to be with the children during the day and evening. They are an absolute credit to you, their parents and the School. I feel very proud to say I work at Roxbourne due to the delightful and talented children who attend.

The winner of the programme cover design is Aisha Cole in 5B. Those of you who were at the musical event will already know this as you would have been admiring her art work on your programme during the evening. Well done Aisha.

We are extremely grateful to all the instrumental teachers who prepared the children for the concert, and especially Mr. Wookey who accompanied so many of the children on the piano.

The evening was a tremendous success - a HUGE well done and thank you to everyone who was involved.
